From Sugar Cane to Cane Sugar

Each Wednesday in September, Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, St. Martinville – From Sugar Cane to Cane Sugar, 10:30 a.m. & 2 p.m. Meet at Longfellow’s Interpretive Center and watch an informative video about one of Louisiana’s oldest cash crops, sugar cane. Learn how sugar was planted, harvested and granulated in the past and in modern times. Tours will also be available through the Olivier Plantation House, which was part of a Creole Sugar Plantation in the 1840s – the Civil War.
