Oct. 29, Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, St. Martinville – Fall Festival, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. A special Craft Fair and Market will be held on the grounds of Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site on Main St. in St. Martinville. Craft demonstrators, artist, and vendors of handmade items or produce will be showing and selling their goods. Items for sale include paintings, photographs, wood carvings, Native American crafts, preserves, candies, quilts, bonnets, baby clothing, jewelry, rosaries, soap, candles, preserves, cypress furniture, wooden boat models, pottery, garden items such as plants, benches, pots, and bird feeders. Food will also be available for sale and music will be provided for part of the day.

Oct. 12, Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, St. Martinville – Attakapas Trade Day, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. This program will give visitors the opportunity to compare the lifestyles of a wealthy planter to a simple farmer and the nomadic traders and hunters. Demonstrations and hands-on activities will take place along with a tour through the Olivier Plantation House (circa 1815), the Acadian Farmstead, and the Interpretive Center.

Thursdays, Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, St. Martinville – Creole Housekeeping, 10 a.m. & 2 p.m. Join the site ranger on a walk through a 19th century Creole home. From Sugar Cane to Cane Sugar

Each Wednesday in September, Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, St. Martinville – From Sugar Cane to Cane Sugar, 10:30 a.m. & 2 p.m. Meet at Longfellow’s Interpretive Center and watch an informative video about one of Louisiana’s oldest cash crops, sugar cane. Learn how sugar was planted, harvested and granulated in the past and in modern times. Tours will also be available through the Olivier Plantation House, which was part of a Creole Sugar Plantation in the 1840s – the Civil War. Against the Tide

August 2011 -Mondays, Longfellow Evangeline State Historic Site, St. Martinville – An Explanation of Culture, 10 a.m. The showing of Against the Tide-the Story of the Cajun People of Louisiana will take place followed by tours of the Acadian Farmstead. The farmstead is a recreation of a typical Acadian house and farmstead along the Bayou Teche in the 1800s.
